On 30 May 2024, dosa designer Christina Kim unveiled her first exhibition in Greece: Shades of White / Whisper of Gold. This is part of a month-long takeover of Mouki Mou Athens. An exclusive collection of garments has been created for this collaboration.
"For me, white and gold mean Greece,” explains Kim. “It’s the Greek light, and all those whitewashed villages – like a collage of interlocking structures and elements, in varying shades of white.”
White is dosa’s base colour, but it comes in a whole spectrum of hues: tint, rice, pebble, and yi (named after the prized white porcelain of Korea’s Yi dynasty). The hints of gold come from shimmering zari cloth spun in Kolkata, gossamer shawls appliquéd with tidki (constellations of dots made from the tiniest of fabric scraps), metallic badla threads from Gujarat, and a wavy lace trim from Valencía that Kim had saved for 25 years, until the right moment presented itself.
Easy to wear, wash, pack, and match, these are clothes that will not date,” says Maria Lemos, the founder of Mouki Mou. “They embody a Greek state of mind – the light, the climate, a simpler way of life.”
